This first annual 3-on-3 Burbank Y basketball tournament is being held in memory of a beloved member, Mark Eckard. Mark passed away suddenly in 2017 at the age of 60 years old. He was a long-time pick-up basketball participant who promoted sportsmanship, camaraderie and love of the game. The Y is honored to be hosting this event in Mark’s memory. It will be a great day to celebrate his passion for basketball, while simultaneously providing youth with the opportunity to develop their leadership, teamwork and goal-setting skills.

Proceeds from the tournament will support the Y’s Future Leaders. A mentorship program for at-risk youth, the mission of Future Leaders is to instill leadership, teamwork and goal-setting skills in at-risk and transitional youth. This mentorship program utilizes basketball as a tool to connect with youth to inspire and guide these conversations. Future Leaders is not focused on how fast one can run or how high one can jump…it’s focused on developing outstanding students, team players and leaders in their community.
