Summer Day Camp

Enroll your youngster in a Y day camp program and give them a summer they'll never forget. Choose from 11 weeks, May 29-August 9, for children pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. Also available: 8 different summer camps for special interests such as basketball, architecture, even wizardry & magic!

Camp AccreditationThe Burbank Y's summer day camp is fully accredited by the American Camp Association. That means we've met the most rigorous standards for organization, safety, health and program development. So, when you send your youngster to our camp, you can be sure that they will have the highest quality experience. Because nobody does camp better than the Y.

DAY CAMPS

JOURNEY

Completed Grades: Pre-Kindergarten

Cost: $210-$250

Session Dates: May 29-August 9

Journey introduces youngsters to what camp is all about! This is the perfect camp for children who will be starting kindergarten in the fall. There are a wide variety of enrichment activities, field trips and active play options each day. Campers will go swimming twice a week and go on up to two field trips. Field trips range from hands-on experiences such as Kidspace and Discovery Cube to active trips like Underwood Family Farm and the Aquarium of the Pacific.

VOYAGER

Completed Grades: Kindergarten

Cost: $225-$265 per week

Session Dates: May 29-August 9

Voyager is designed with the younger camper in mind. Activities focus on each camper's physical, emotional, cognitive and social development and include arts & crafts, imaginative play and twice-a-week swimming, as well as a wide variety of field trips. With educational trips such as the California Science Center and the LA Zoo to unique experiences such as music and art workshops at the Hollywood Bowl and a visit to a real working farm, campers are sure to have a summer they will not soon forget!

DISCOVERY

Completed Grades 1st-2nd Grade

Cost: $225-$290

Session Dates: May 29-August 9

Discovery focuses on teaching children through fun, creativity and active play. Daily physical games help promote fitness while arts & crafts stimulate the imagination. Campers will attend trips that vary from learning about how movies are made at Universal Studios, Huntington Library, exploring our
history at various museums, and enjoying the water at Hurricane Harbor. Each week has two or three field trips planned, as well as two days of swimming.

Explorer

Completed Grades 3rd, 4th, or 5th Grade

Cost: $225-$290

Session Dates: May 29-August 9

Explorer gives older school-aged youngsters a chance to spread their wings and experience new adventures. Opportunities are offered for campers to make their own choices. Exciting trips such as the Grammy Museum, Knott's Berry Farm, a Sparks Game, and Universal Studios are offered, in addition to some new trips such as the
Arboretum and a visit to the Hollywood Sports Park. Each week has
two or three field trips planned, as well as two days of swimming.

ADVENTURE

Completed Grades: 6th, 7th, or 8th Grade

Cost: $225-$475

Session Dates: May 29-August 9

Adventure offers a more challenging range of activities for our oldest campers. Campers get to go on an overnight experience to San Diego, enjoy an evening campout at a local beach and attend our Disneyland/California Adventure overnight event—complete with Disney's Leadership in Action program. In addition, daily trips to places like Raging Waters, Magic Mountain and the new BROAD Museum are part of this thrilling camp. We will also be going to Adventure Plex, Soak City, various museums and more. A unique feature is that campers assist in the planning of activities and Friday field trips.

SPECIALTY CAMPS

Whatever you like to do, we've got a special camp for you! In addition to our regular day camp sessions, we also offer 8 different summer camps for special interests. The specialty camps run from 9am-3pm and offer an extended care option that allows parents to drop off as early as 7am and pick up as late as 6:30pm. Various activities are provided before & after the specialty program's hours to keep youngsters engaged throughout the day. Cost for extended care is an additional $50 per week.

Note: Specialty camp schedules and locations are subject to change and a camp may be canceled if there is insufficient enrollment. Cancellation is rare but, if it should happen, campers have the option of switching to our regular day camp program.

EXPLORATIONS IN DRAWING & PHOTOGRAPHY

Completed Grades: 5th-8th

Cost: $255 per week

Session Dates:June 5-June 23

Students will explore a range of image making and visual communication methods using freehand drawing, photography and combinations of the two. Projects and exercises will begin to make exciting connections between who we are, what we see and the images we can make. Held at Woodbury University

FASHION DESIGN CLASS

Completed Grades: 5th-8th

Cost: $255 per week

Session Dates:June 26-July 14

Calling fashionista girls and boys! Explore the excitement and fun of fashion as participants are given samplings of everything to do with fashion. Fashion sketching. Paint on fabric. T-shirt de-construction. Crafts. Hand-sewing. Embroidery. Machine-sewing. Fashion show. Adobe digital skills. Held at Woodbury University.

ART OF ARCHITECTURE

Completed Grades: 4th-8th grade

Cost: $255 per week

Session Dates: July 17-August 4

This youth program is taught by architects and designers at Woodbury University's School of Architecture. Students will be working in the computer lab, experimenting with 3-D printing and laser cutting, and learning about architecture through traditional and digital hand drawing and model making exercises. It's an engaging and inventive camp that increases creative thinking and hands-on development. We will also be going on a field trip to learn more about design and art. Held at Woodbury University.

BASKETBALL

Completed Grades: 1st-8th grade

Cost: $210 per week

Session Dates: June 5-9 & July 17-21

The focus of this day camp is to improve fundamentals of the game of basketball. Ball-handling, passing, shooting, defensive stance and many more basic skills are covered throughout the week of instruction. The camp also includes competition, both individually and in team situations. This camp gives each participant the skills necessary to help them become the complete basketball player in an enjoyable way. Held at the Burbank Community YMCA.

GYMNASTICS

Completed Grades: 1st-3rd grade

Cost: $210 per week

Session Dates: July 31-August 4

This is a one-week specialty camp that includes a variety of fitness activities such as gymnastics, sports, games, strength, flexibility and team building, all in a fun and challenging environment. Kids will also learn about health and nutrition topics! It's a great day camp for boys and girls as they learn body awareness and gymnastics skills. Held at the Burbank Community YMCA.

WIZARDS & MAGIC CAMP

Completed Grades: 3rd-5th

Cost: $225 per week

Session Dates: June 19-23

Has your camper always wanted to live in the world of their favorite storybook wizard? Learn about magic, elves, and mythical creatures? This is the perfect camp for all campers who want to spend the week learning about the history of magical schools and the wizards who inhabit them. Campers will be placed in their wizarding houses, and house competitions will take place on our wizard field. Campers will also make their own wands, hunt for mystical treasures and learn the importance of working together. Plus, a trip to Universal Studios is included! Held at Brace Canyon Park.

OLYMPICS

Completed Grades: 1st-5th

Cost: $225 per week

Session Dates: July 17-21

Summer Olympics has come early for our campers. Campers will have the opportunity to participate in their own Y-lympics as they run, jump, toss, challenge and race their way to gold, silver and bronze medals in a variety of activities. Complete with opening and closing ceremonies, a field trip, and a little geography education thrown in, this camp is certain to have your camper aiming for the gold! Plus, a trip to see an LA Sparks game is included! Held at Brace Canyon Park.

SUPERHERO

Completed Grades: 3rd-5th

Cost: $225 per week

Session Dates: July 24-28

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's superhero camp! Campers will learn about different superheroes and invent super powers of their own. Art projects, science tricks, acting lessons and comic creations abound. In this camp, finding out what it means to be a superhero is part of the fun. Plus, a trip to Magic Mountain is included! Held at Brace Canyon Park.

LEARN, GROW, THRIVE DAY CAMP

Learn, Grow, Thrive is a special, no-cost summer learning program that helps children catch up, stay on track or get ahead on their reading and math skills while providing summer camp fun! To qualify, children must be on free or reduced lunch program and score below grade level at their school.

Lessons focus on vocabulary, spelling, grammar, reading, writing and math are provided by credentialed teachers of the Burbank Unified School District. Activities conducted by the Y include swimming, arts &crafts, camp songs, outdoor games and exciting filed trips. And through all, an emphasis is placed on character values, healthy eating and physical activity.

The program, which runs June 5-July 14, 8am-6pm, is available to three age groups:

  • Completed 1st-2nd grade Miller Elementary School
  • Completed 3rd-5th grade Miller Elementary School
  • Completed 6th-7th Luther Middle School

FEES, DEPOSITS & REGISTRATION PACKETS

All camps require a $50 enrollment fee per camper due upon registration. Also, a $50 non-refundable deposit per week is due upon registration. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify. Inquire about this program at camp@burbankymca.org. (Donate $20 or more to the Y financial assistance program and receive a YMCA backpack. While supplies last.)

Step-BY-STEP Registration Instructions

  1. Click on the Register Now button at the top of the Summer Camp home page.
  2. Log-in with your username and password. If you've never registered for a Y program before, create a new account for your child.
  3. Click on the child's name you wish to register.
  4. Under Program Categories, choose Summer Camp.
  5. Register for the enrollment fee and purchase t-shirts (very first option that appears.)
  6. Choose the weeks of camp you wish to register for and provide payment online.

After completing the online registration process, download the registration packet and return the completed packet within two weeks to the Child Development Center office, 332 San Jose Ave., Burbank.

CAMP SHIRTS (required)

All campers must wear our official YMCA summer day camp t-shirt each day they attend camp to ensure the optimum level of identification, supervision and safety. Camp t-shirts are $12 each.

CAMP ORIENTATION NIGHTS & PARENT HANDBOOK

New and returning campers, together with their parents, are encouraged to join us on Wednesday, May 24 to ask questions, meet key staff, and get a detailed overview of the program. (See Our Learn, Grow, Thrive Camp section for special orientation nights for that program.) All orientations are at 7pm at our Child Development Center at 332 East San Jose Avenue.

COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING

Grades: Completed 9th-12th Grade

Enrollment Fee: $50 Cost: $60 week except for $100 for the Disneyland Leadership week (TBD), $75 for week 10

Our Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program is designed for those who are currently in high school. CIT is a summer-long program designed to train prospective staff members for employment at our summer day camp and learn skills necessary for any job in the future. All CITs who are 16 and over have the option to be certified in First Aid and CPR at an additional cost. A workshop in resume building and job interview skills will be offered, as well as a tour of a local college campus. Returning CITs will have added responsibility along with the option to choose which age group they would like to assist. Interested CITs must go through an interview process prior to registration.
