Aquatics

The Burbank YMCA has three indoor, heated pools for you to enjoy all year long! From lap swimming to water aerobics, we offer a wide variety of aquatic activities for members of all ages.

Ages:6-30 months w/Adult
Ratio: 10:1
Water Discovery introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment through exploration and encourages them to enjoy themselves while learning about the water.

Ages: 6-36 months with Adult
Ratio: 10:1

In Water Exploration parents work with their children to explore body their children to explore body positions, floating, blowing bubbles and fundamental safety and aquatic skills.

Ages: 3-5 years
Ratio: 5:1

Students will develop comfort with under water exploration and learn to safely enter and exit the pool. Students will also focus on body position and control, directional change and forward movement in the water. Submerge underwater and bob with assistance.

Ages: 3-5 years
Ratio: 6:1

Students will continue to focus on body position and control. Submerge under water comfortably and reach for object independently. Introduction to kicks on kickboard.

Ages: 5-12 years
Ratio: 6:1

Students will develop stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and learn breaststroke kick and butterfly kick. Introduction to diving and treading water.

Students will refine technique and endurance on all major competitive strokes. Learn about competitive swimming and discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle.

Ages: 6-16 years

Swimmers must be able to swim a 100 meter butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle without assistance. Swimmers will continue to refine all four strokes, learn turns and starts. Workouts include endurance, speed and drill techniques, with a healthy dose of teamwork and sportsmanship. Teams practice twice per week. Swimmer must also attend regular monthly swim competitions.

This is the perfect class for the adult who wants to learn how to swim for the first time!

During Adult Open Training, members can enjoy this time to do open exercising using our pool equipment in the Training Pool.

This water exercise program will help you increase joint range of motion, build muscle strength and reduce pain and stiffness. Classes are held in the Training Pool.

A moderate intensity energetic water workout designed to provide cardiovascular conditioning, enhance muscle tone and improve balance.

A moderate to high intensity total body water workout designed to increase water resistance and promote muscle strength, flexibility and endurance. A variety of equipment is used: water dumbbells, noodles, and kickboards.

Aqua Kickboxing combines all the benefits of water resistance with the fun and energy of cardio kickboxing. Improve endurance, agility, coordination, power, and balance core stability.

Aqua Zumba® blends the Zumba® philosophy with water resistance, for one pool party you shouldn't miss! There is less impact on your joints during an Aqua Zumba® class so you can really let loose. Water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps tone your muscles.

A low impact exercise class that is based on principals incorporating muscular conditioning and flexibility to promote general fitness and gain enhancement. Exercises will work major muscle groups of the body to promote muscular balance and reduce the risk of fall and injury.

This is a medium-to-high-intensity deep water class. This class is a resistance workout with a combination of no-impact aerobics, interval and strength training, and flexibility exercises. This class works the upper body, lower body and core for a satisfying full body workout.

A low impact water exercise class held in our warm water training pool. This class is designed to promote good joint health while toning and strengthening muscles. (This is NOT an Arthritis Foundation Class).

Swim laps on your own in the Lap Pool, we have special times set aside for these activities. Please check our current schedules

Lap Swimming Tips: Please enter the pool from the shallow end. To avoid accidents, when entering an occupied lane, please get the first swimmer’s acknowledgment that you are there.

Directions for Adult Lap: If there are 1 or 2 swimmers in a lane, they may elect to split the lane in half. The entrance of a third person immediately changes the lane to “circle” swimming format.

Speed: Please choose a lane with swimmers that most nearly match your speed.

During this swim time, families can enjoy our aquatics facility in the Lap Pool and Training Pool during Family Open Swim Hours. Adult must be with a child under the age of 8 at all times. One adult for every two children in with water. Pool Equipment cannot be used at this time. This includes, Kick-boards, Water Toys, Water Weights, and Swim Noodles etc. Flotation aids other than U. S. Coast Guard approved life vests are not permitted at any time. A swim test of 50yds in the Lap Pool will be asked, if member would like to swim in the deep end of the pool.

Lap Pool

Our Lap pool is 20 yards in length, has four lap swim lanes and is kept at 82-84 degrees. It is used for a variety of activities, including Lap Swim, Open Swim, Swim Lessons and Water Aerobic classes.

Training Pool

Used for Swimming Lessons, Open Swim, Adult Open Training, AFYAP classes and other Water Fitness Classes, this pool is kept at a temperate of 88-90 degrees.

Spa Pool

The spa is available to use anytime the pool deck is open and is kept at 102-104 degrees.

Locker Rooms & Amenities

We have four locker rooms, a family, girl’s, men’s and women’s. Each is equipped with showers, changing rooms, swimming suit dryer, sinks and lavatories. The women’s and men's locker rooms are equipped with dry saunas; the men’s locker room is also equipped with steam room. Members may use lockers on a daily basis for free by providing their own lock and then emptying the locker upon completion of their workout after each visit.

We offer a locker package to adult members for an additional $10.00 per month. This locker remains designated to the member as long as they are in good standing.

Adult locker rooms are for members 18 years old and up; no child under 18 may use an adult locker room. Children between the ages of 0 to 6 six years old must use the appropriate locker room of the attending parent. For example: A father with a two year old daughter would use the family locker room and a mother with a three year old son would use the girls locker room.
