Water Aerobics & Fitness

Come on in, the water's fine! The Burbank Y provides a variety of water fitness classes included with membership. We have classes ideal for all fitness and swimming strength levels, so whether you're an adult looking for fitness without joint stress or a member who just enjoys the water, everyone can take advantage of our classes. Instructors lead small groups through water aerobics, core strengthening and much more, helping participants to gain muscle conditioning and cardiovascular endurance from the aerobic choreography and resistance of the water.

Read below for descriptions of many of our classes and check out the Water Fitness Schedule for current class days and times. Note that some classes require monthly registration (no fee); please register online or in person at Member Services.

Aqua Arthritis Program:This water exercise program is designed for people with arthritis and related conditions. Water exercise is especially good for people with arthritis, because it allows exercise without putting excess strain on joints and muscles. The Aqua Arthritis Program gives participants the opportunity to do gentle activities in warm water, with guidance from a trained instructor. Although it is a non-clinical program (one that will not replace a prescribed regimen of therapeutic exercise), participants have enjoyed some physical benefits such as decreased pain and stiffness. Plus, Aqua Arthritis has the added benefit of a friendly and supportive atmosphere that gives members the chance to meet new people. Monthly registration is required (no fee).

Stretch & Strengthen: A low impact exercise class held in our warm water training pool. This class is designed to stretch & strengthen the muscles in a calm relaxing environment. Good for those with special considerations. Monthly registration is required (no fee).

Aqua Blast: A moderate intensity energetic water workout designed to provide cardiovascular conditioning, enhance muscle tone and improve balance.

Aqua Burn: A moderate to high intensity total body water workout designed to increase water resistance and promote muscle strength, flexibility and endurance. A variety of equipment; water dumbbells, noodles, and kickboards are used.

Aqua Kickboxing: Combines all the benefits of water resistance with the fun and energy of cardio kickboxing. Improve endurance, agility, coordination, power, balance and core stability.

Aqua Zumba®: Splash your way into shape with an invigorating low-impact aquatic exercise. Aqua Zumba® blends together cardio-conditioning & body-toning for a refreshing workout that is exhilarating beyond belief!

Healthy Joints: A low impact water exercise class held in our warm water training pool. This class is designed to promote good joint health while toning and strengthening muscles. (This is NOT an Arthritis Foundation Class).

Sculpt & Tone: A low impact exercise class held in our warm water training pool. This non-cardio workout is designed to isolate the muscles and to sculpt and tone the upper and lower body.
