The purpose of the Adventure Guides is to foster understanding and companionship between parents and children. Participating families attend circle meetings every other week. They meet at one another’s homes, get to know different cultures and plan games and crafts as diverse as tie-dying shirts, going to the circus or taking camping trips.
Throughout the year “expedition adventures” are planned, sometimes grouped by gender (all father/daughter pairs or father/son pairs.) And ceremony is celebrated in this program with rites of passage, special attire and awards. It is understood that the parent serves as a guide in a child’s life. Parents lead, direct, supervise, influence and teach while presenting opportunities for children to explore the world around them.
